Karen & Colin's house
What a lovely afternoon -
seolta invited myself,
spiffington, &
campanula2004 to visit her sister & brother-in-law's house, a wonderful retreat in the Borders. The orders of business included: a drive into the countryside, time spent with a dog, tea & cakes, & jumping on a trampoline.

Who could resist? None of us, apparently, because 2:30 PM found us loaded into Comet (
seolta's hardworking automobile), hurtling towards Galashiels. Upon arriving, we met Yanna, Karen & Colin's 19-month-old Border Collie:

Then we proceeded to try out the trampoline, which
seolta had recently purchased for her sister as a gift for her 40th birthday. Only one trampoliner at a time, please ....

Here,
seolta,
spiffington, &
campanula2004 each take a turn. The placement of the trampoline & configuration of Karen's garden hedge means that passersby on the road were befuddled by the sight of giggling women periodically sailing into view above the hedge. Good thing there's little traffic.
Trampolining is more exhausting than it looks. Our troop suffered a 50% casuality rate:

However, we revived quickly enough. Walking down to the river that wends its way behind the house, we harvested a few raspberries from the brambles alongside the path. We could smell wild garlic all around us. The rhubarb plants were enormous, looking like they were meant to grazed upon by brontosauri.

The river was delightfully loquacious, cheerfully prattling to itself about the heron perched in the trees above its banks, & the ducks sunning themselves upon its rocks. It also welcomed Yanna & her humans to its banks, offering us a variety of entertainments.

Yanna was thrilled by the plethora of stick-throwing humans, & exhausted herself charging about in the river shallows.

Meanwhile,
angledge instructed
campanula2004 in the fine art of rock-stacking, as perfected by the Hive in the gorges of Ithaca, NY.

Only the finest building materials were used; substandard stones were sent spelunking to the river bottom.

After enough sun, stones, & stream-watching, we trekked back to the house, where Karen fed us tea & cakes. Then we Cometed back home, content with a Day of Rest spent away from Edina, revelling in childlike joys.

Back to work tomorrow.

In NoVA, there's some kind of law that only mormons can have trampolines. Sucks to be us athiests.
