One hundred years ago today.

Commemerative headline from the San Francisco Examiner.

It's far past time for me to get a disaster kit assembled at le Chateau.

0947 Edit: And the celebrations continue! We just had an earthquake drill at work. I predict a fire drill any moment now.
1057 Edit: Just back from the fire drill. This concludes today's disaster preparedness shenanigans.
1339 Edit: Not so fast! I arrived at EPA just in time to participate in their earthquake drill. Oooh, the underside of someone else's desk!

I can't drink alcohol while I'm on my new medication. If the boys want Emergency Liquor, they'll have to stow it themselves.

And why aren't you at this conference?

There were mild earthquakes in Sinking Spring, PA this past week. And my grandmother is completely freaked out about it.

So there were! (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/) Two incredibly tiny microquakes.

It doesn't take much to freak out my grandmother, and the poor woman got caught in the flooding in Austria this year, too.

No time better than the present!

When June 1 gets closer, Matt and I are making our evacuation kit and planning our route out of town. God knows that if I stay through the summer (which, hey, why not!?) I'll get to evacuate a few times...

Glad to hear you're planning to stay! Des is still trying to find more people....

I know one that's ready to fill a position any day now...
I don't think I know anybody else that's able to drop everything and come at the moment.

[identity profile] angledge.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What is Matt's situation? Any change?

[identity profile] love2loveher.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He's all cleared up. It's just a matter of having it correctly on file with the FBI as far as I understand things. I've seen the paperwork in his hands with all the happy signatures :)

[identity profile] angledge.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome!! I look forward to having him on board & I hope he stays for a good long time (to make it worth all the hassle).

[identity profile] love2loveher.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He's in love with this town in so many ways. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed with FEMA until they ewre completely done then stayed here permanently. Well... We have tossed around the idea of working a disaster in West Palm Beach for a little while for a change.

[identity profile] love2loveher.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the "FEMA flexible" workplace drives him crazy in the first week and he begrudgingly works the whole 90 days just to pay the bills.

for homework, my kid's teacher required that every kid in class be woken up at 5:12am this morning. at exactly 5:12 am this morning, i shook her bed. hahaha!

all the kids were excited about it. though it must be because it feels almost like being able to stay up late. :)

Nice! So what did kidmonkey learn from this experience?

[identity profile] agntprovocateur.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
thst it was WAY too early!!!

I'm just curious as to why this assignment was given.

[identity profile] agntprovocateur.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
the kid says: to see how tired you were and what it would feel like to be jolted out of bed that early. and honestly, going from momentary disorientation ato seeing half a city being leveled can be pretty weird.
