The salamander strikes again

Just got an email. I've been subpoened to testify regarding the events of 16 April 2002. For those who haven't heard the story, this was the day when my former employer, ARCADIS G&M, drilled through an underground gasoline storage tank in the course of a soils investigation, releasing approximately 3,000 gallons of gas into the soil, groundwater, & sewer system of Center City Philadelphia. I was at the site that day NOT as part of the drilling team, but working on a separate task (sampling the existing monitoring wells). I've been hoping that, since I wasn't directly involved in the drilling activities that led to the spill, I wouldn't be involved in the inevitable court case.

No dice, it seems.

That sux0rs. Granted, you're not in any trouble or anything, since you didn't do anything... but when is this testimony to be given? Sometime in the near future, when you plan on not being in the vicinity of Philadelphia? That would suck extra. Hoo boy.

My deposition is scheduled for Friday June 6th ... three days before I leave. I *almost* got away!!

Since my experience with judicial-type issues is sadly limited to watching seemingly endless hours of "Law & Order", does leaving the state mean they can't call you, or that it's too expensive for them to do so, or something else?

It means that it would be expensive for them to get me to testify. They have to pay my travel expenses if they decide they need me to testify when I'm in Scotland. However, if I'm subpoened, I have to show up. This is all extremely unlikely, however.
