Did Obama's speechwriters screw up?
I'm certain that the quotation near the end of
Obama's speech
is from
The Crisis, No. 1
by Thomas Paine. Not from a speech by George Washington to the troops at Valley Forge.

Washington didn't make that speech to the troops, he had those words read to them for inspiration.

Ah so. So the speech itself doesn't attribute the words to Washington. But the reporters were, or so it seemed to me.
Is Thomas Paine too obscure for modern audiences?
