I can hardly keep up!

Sweden approves same-sex marriage.

Overriding governor's veto, Vermont legislature OKs gay marriage.

Iowa - wait, IOWA??

Best comment on that last development came from [personal profile] hotpantsgalore: "Who knew there were so many corn-fed brothers & sisters?"

And no, we're not planning to go to Iowa to get married. We're still hoping California will take their cue from more cutting-edge places (like Iowa) & re-legalize marriage out there.

And after you get married in one of them, soon you'll be able to move to DC and it'll still be a real marriage here, too. City council approved it yesterday unanimously. It'll pass through the other hoops in the city no prob, but then it goes to Congress. Fun. I think it probably will make it through Congress. The real "fun" will be if city council goes for making gay marriage fully legal in the city.

That's the situation in NYS right now - we can't get married there, but they will recognize our marriage if it is legally performed elsewhere.

Hopefully the State Assembly will fix this silly double standard this year.

I feel much more love for Iowa these days. Then again, I felt a lot of love for them when Barack Obama won their caucus, too.

If things haven't changed by the time I a) meet the love of my life and b) get married (I'm optimistic, perhaps naively so, that both of these things will happen!) I'd totally get married in Iowa.

But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for California for y'all. :)
