Friday Five
May. 7th, 2004 08:47 pmThe website FridayFive has closed up shop, but that's OK - here's the GiA FF instead.
1. Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Tell us, do you speak any other languages?
I speak Spanish fairly well, about 500 words of Scottish Gaelic, & tiny smatterings (i.e., greetings & ordering drinks) of four or five other languages.
2. Have you ever traveled to Mexico? How about some other Spanish-speaking country? If not, how about Florida or Southern California?
I was in La Manga, Spain for a week in March. And I lived in California for eight years, but not in a Spanish-speaking area. I have never been to Mexico.
3. Do you like Mexican food? Why or why not? What is your favorite ethnic food?
I love Mexican food! It's vegetarian-friendly, it's got lots of fresh veggies, it's cheap/easy to cook at home, & it's spicy! But my favorite ethnic food is Thai.
4. What kind of celebrating do you have planned for this weekend?
I'm going to Stirling for the weekend, so I'll probably visit Stirling Castle & the Wallace Monument, & listen to the Scottish History majors I'm traveling with as they argue about all the historical inaccuracies in Braveheart. Wheee!
5. Any plans yet for el quatro de Julio? (July 4th)
I'd like to come home at that time ... but I probably can't afford to. If I'm here, I'd like to get together with some other American expats & have a barbeque in the Meadows. Maybe I'll hand out instructions on absentee voting at that time .... as long as they promise to vote for Kerry.
