Sleep: Last night, I took a long, hot shower before bed & applied a ton of Biofreeze to my shoulders & triceps. SH says I went to sleep at 10:20 PM, Facebook Messenger says 10:26 PM, all agree I woke up at 6:00 AM. Call it 7½ hours of sleep. Deep sleep. I woke up feeling rested & my arms weren’t hurting.

Program: Kneeling prayer this morning, meditation this afternoon. I’ve now meditated three days in a row, which (lately) is a big deal. My longest streak ever was 17 days in a row. I should try to beat that. I called my sponsor this evening – got voice mail. Sigh.

Work: Another decent day. I got to the office early & then my BioWatch client called me & we scheduled a meeting at EPA HQ for 1 PM. Held the meeting then worked from home the rest of the day.

Food: I had early coffee w/cream, then ate standard breakfast (casserole, keto biscuit) around 10:30 AM. Celery & almond butter snack around 5 PM. Wasn’t hungry for dinner, but finally ate a freezer meal (pork tenderloin/kale/squash) just before 9 PM. I’ve been thirsty all day.

Exercise: I followed yesterday’s plan this morning: I did the pre-hab exercises & Day 1 of Core Play. I’m only doing about half of it – any exercise that calls for 10 repetitions, I’m generally doing 5. I’m not going to finish this program in 4 weeks – it will be more like 8 weeks. That’s fine. The wrist-stretching exercises both feel good & thoroughly demonstrate how messed up my left wrist is. Moves like plank & lunge show how weak my left triceps is. I have an appointment with Dr. Spallone for tomorrow to see if an adjustment helps.

Mood: I’ve been in a good mood today. Is it the fish? The sleep? The exercise? Getting back on lithium orotate? All of the above? I did have a bit of a Sad over the fact that I decorated my apartment for Christmas, alone. But alas. The life of a single person.

Grats: 1. Six days in a row I’ve worked out. I’ve identified a problem (left arm weakness) but I’m working on a solution (chiropractor appointment tomorrow). 2. Got through the EPA client meeting today & now have some firm deadlines. 3. A* thinks I'm beautiful.

Sleep: SH didn’t give me a sleep estimate last night, for whatever reason. I think I slept about 8 hours.

Program: Kneeling prayer this morning.

Work: I actually got some BioWatch work done.

Food: 3-egg veggie omelette with two chicken sausages for breakfast. Leftovers plate for a late lunch. Mustard chicken, sweet potato, & steamed broccoli for dinner, followed by pumpkin pie.

Exercise: 20 minutes on the rowing machine at the Wellness Center. I was basically doing 2 minutes hard / 1 minute easy.

Mood: All right. I had a headache for most of the day, that became a horrible headache by bedtime. Mom really, really, REALLY wanted to watch "Kinkyboots" on TV, so I stayed awake to watch that & it made my head ache more.

Sleep: SH reports 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM. That seems about right.

Program: I texted lots & lots of people today. I've focused on being of service today - helping prepare food, cleaning up, etc. My dad offered me a glass of wine *sigh*

Food: Heh. A small bowl of Rice Chex & tea before the 5k, & a yogurt after. Salami & cheese. Then THE MAIN EVENT: TurkeyStuffingMashedPotatoesGreenBeanCasseroleCranberryJellyYamsRolls OMG. Then, two slices of Bobo's apple pie with cheddar cheese melted on top. YUM.

Exercise: Bobo & I did a Turkey Trot 5k this morning. I finished... last (37:39). I am really, really, REALLY out of shape. 8,287 steps / 67 minutes active.

Mood: I'm doing OK, but I'm getting to the end of my patience with Mom. Oh dear, I have 2 1/2 more days to go.

Grats: 1. I was at least able to finish the 5k. That's... something, I guess. 2. All the delicious food! 3. Time spent with my Bobo.

I don't have a paid account right now so I can't actually make a poll, so post yer vote in the comments. Which was my best Christmas present?

+ set of 20 Henckel knives
+ bottle of Magnifique perfume
+ Amazon Kindle
+ waffle iron that makes waffles in the shape of the state of Texas

I made out like a freakin' BANDIT this year!

It's almost five o'clock. Time to crack open a 12 oz. corporate donation from Anheuser-Busch:
Pure Rocky Mountain spring wat- wait, that's someone else.

*crack* Ahhh! Tastes a lot like a normal Budweiser!

I'm pulling together the last components of my Halloween costume for a party tonight. The last thing I need is a roll of duct tape. I like to think that needing a roll of duct tape before heading out means that it will be a good night out.

1. Do you enjoy the cold weather and snow for the holidays?

I love snow. I love cold weather. But honestly, I have neither at the moment. Apparently, it rarely snows in Edinburgh - winter features more slush & sleet & cold, cold rain. Boo.

2. What is your ideal holiday celebration? How, where, with whom would you celebrate to make things perfect?

Ideal Christmas celebration ... well, Stacy tells me she's never missed a Christmas at home, so I guess we'd spend Christmas with her family. But an ideal holiday celebration would involve seeing my family, too. Trying to mentally work out the logistics of making that happen makes my head hurt. Of course, any ideal celebration would wrap up with a trip up to Ithaca for Hive New Year. So this year is going to be pretty darn far from ideal, but it will be fun nonetheless.

3. Do you do have any holiday traditions?

No unusual ones. Church on Christmas Eve, then come home & open one present. Christmas morning, get up, eat breakfast while opening presents. Sing lots of Christmas carols (with my sister-in-law playing the piano & my brother playing the guitar). Eat a big meal. Watch lots of football on TV.

4. Do you do anything to help the needy?

Not particularly at Christmas, but throughout the year I'm involved in charity work (MANNA) & I donate money.

5. What one gift would you like for yourself?

This year? Clothes. Bought for me by someone with style.

In the maelstrom of last Friday, I forgot to mention that last Thursday night I gave a few of my floormates a demonstration of an authentic American folk art: jack'o'lantern carving.
Kristin, my Norwegian flatmate, learns how to scoop the goop out of the pumpkin.

They were unbelievably enthusiastic over this one little lame grinning pumpkin. Selina had a fit today when I announced it was time for Jack to visit the magical kingdom of the rubbish bin, but after Hsin-Yi took this picture, off he went:
Right before Jack went crash in the trash.

1. What was your first Halloween costume?

When I was eleven days old, my mom dressed me up as a bumblebee. She's got photos - silly, embarrassing photos.

2. What was your best costume and why?

I like my astronaut jumpsuit a lot, because it's very realistic looking & because it reminds me of Space Camp.

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?

No, but I have played some tricks on Mischief Night.

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)

ALWAYS carve jack'o'lanterns, even here (the other students were fascinated with this display of strange American folk art).

5. Share your favorite scary story...real or legend!

The Horror of Blimps, as told by Scylla (see my post for the original reference). Terrifying but true. Well, not really terrifying.

Saturday's barbeque was quite a success, I'd say. We ended up with about 40 guests total, & had a crowd here from 2:00 PM 'til about 11:00 PM. Of course, the Hive (& Doreen) spent the night, & carried on until 2:00 AM or so. Not to mention having started early with a party on Friday night that didn't wind down until nearly 4:00 AM.

Highlights:

  • [livejournal.com profile] effrontery FINALLY PROVED HER EXISTENCE by showing up & meeting the Hive. Take that, unbelievers! She's REAL!
  • The neighbors within earshot received quite the education on the current state of lesbian sexual practices by overhearing an out-of-control game of "I Never", which took place on the front porch, after many beers. Hoo boy.
  • I received rave reviews from the crowd when I debuted the first meat dish I've cooked in many years, the succulent Meat-On-A-Stick. Here's how it's made: Cube steak, then marinade for at least four hours in (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, chopped garlic, a dab of dijon mustard, parsley, onion salt, basil, oregano, & rosemary). Spear steak pieces onto shish kebab skewers & sear over high heat on grill. Serve warm, preferably while still on stick.
