SF Tsunami Swim-a-thon
Jan. 17th, 2005 09:40 amIf you read my LJ, you know that I am a member of the San Francisco Tsunami Swim Club. The club was founded in 1986 and since then has fostered the highest ideals of sportsmanship, physical and mental well-being, and community spirit. In the spirit of global community, SF Tsunami is conducting a Swim-a-thon on January 29, 2005, to raise funds for tsunami disaster relief in the East. It is unfortunate that our namesake is associated with such destruction, but we feel that we can bring some positive out of it.
This is a long-distance, endurance event that will inspire each swimmer to achieve his/her personal best. I am excited to take on this challenge and support this cause, and I am hopeful that you will support my efforts as well.
You can sponsor me a flat amount, or per length. A flat amount would be easiest, but “per length” would encourage me to swim that much harder. I estimate that I will swim approximately 160-180 lengths (25 yard pool) over the 1.5 hours. For more information about this event, go to the team's informational page.
100% of the proceeds will be immediately donated to the American Red Cross - South Asia Relief Fund. They are a well-established and respected aid organization already heavily engaged in Asia relief efforts.
Checks should be made out to “SF Tsunami Masters” with “Asia Relief” and my name in the memo field. They can also be made out directly to the American Red Cross with my name and “International Response Fund South Asia” written in the memo field. SF Tsunami is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. If you are sponsoring me “per length”, I will contact you after the event to inform you of my results.
You can send your check directly to me, or mail your check to:
SF Tsunami Masters
C/O Michael Shinn
631 O’Farrell St. #1902
San Francisco, CA 94109-7430
All checks must be received by Saturday February 12, 2005.
Please donate generously to this worthy cause, and I will do my best to represent your efforts in the pool.
Thanks for your support, and I wish you a safe and healthy 2005!
