[Warning: if you are phobic about things in your eyes, stop reading now.]

OK, yesterday was my 39th birthday. I don't normally do giant birthday celebrations, but [livejournal.com profile] hotpantsgalore & I did have some plans. However, I woke up yesterday with a irritated, painful, red left eye. It felt like I had some debris in the eye, so I made several efforts to flush it out, first with an eye cup & then with a heavy stream of saline solution. No luck. Pain increasing. I tried to get treated at the Redi-Clinic in the local grocery store, but they said they weren't set up to deal with eyes. The urgent care clinic they directed me to was closed. So I went home & just tried to tough it out.

I woke up this morning & the eye was much worse, so I looked up a different urgent care clinic - Medsprings Urgent Care at River Oaks. I got there right at the opening bell (9 AM), had my paperwork done by 9:05, was talking to a PA by 9:10, & saw the doctor at 9:15.

The doctor quickly diagnosed blocked tear ducts. She put in some drops to numb the eye, slapped on a face shield, & proceeded to roll my eyelids back. I could see everything she was doing in the reflection off the face shield. Once my eyelids were turned inside out, she found the blocked tear ducts (there were two) & used a pair of tweezer-like things to squeeze them like they were pimples. Pus oozed out of them, so she irrigated my eye to wash all this garbage out. She unflipped my eyelids, dried everything off, gave me a prescription for an antibiotic in case everything isn't better in a couple of days, gave me two pages of follow-up instructions, & I was out the door by 9:40.

Total cost of the visit: $100.

If all healthcare was this good & efficient, the politicians could move on to arguing about something else.
