Dogs & sleep, Part 2.
Jan. 8th, 2018 08:30 amI was (slightly) ill over the weekend, so I have few accomplishments (or even motions) to report. I hovered just over the baseline metabolic rate on both Saturday & Sunday, holding down the sofa. I re-discovered my love of Skyrim, & played for several hours.
But one thing I did accomplish was buying a Shadeaux-sized dog crate on Craigslist & getting it set up in the spare bedroom (where I sleep, for now). I put Shadeaux's dog bed in it & last night, she slept in a crate for the first time in YEARS. Hobbes slept in his crate too - much less of an accomplishment, because he's been a routine crate-sleeper much more recently than Shadeaux. Shadeaux was DEEPLY displeased with the new arrangment. Thank God she didn't really whine about it, but she resisted going into the crate & then gave me an Arctic-level cold shoulder this morning - wouldn't cuddle, wouldn't even look at me. Get over it, big girl. Mama needs more ZZZZs.
And I did get a pretty good night's sleep, aided by one Tylenol PM. I didn't sleep straight through the night - at some point, Hobbes was whining & woke me up. I think the thermostat is set too cold for overnight, because it was quite cold in the bedroom when he woke me up. Tonight I will make sure the thermostat is set to 60 degF before I go to bed.
One other thing I did this weekend was try to figure out some ways to reduce my social media usage (she types, ironically, into a social media website). Specifically, I want to spend less time on Facebook. I don't want to completely quit Facebook, because it is the only way many event invitations happen. But I do want to cut down on the hours mindlessly spent scrolling though posts - especially since more & more of them aren't even posts by my friends, but are posts from sites they have liked or straight-up ads. I installed an app called Quality Time that lets me set up "Scheduled Breaks" - times where my phone will limit my access to certain apps. I've got two Scheduled Breaks right now - "Mornings" (05:30-07:00) & "Work Time" (07:00-15:00). During these times, I can only use apps that I choose - & neither break allows Facebook or Twitter. This prohibition is undermined by the fact that I can still hit Twitter from my laptop (in fact, it is open right now) but it is an effective block on Facebook. I should figure out whether I can install Quality Time (or an analog) on my laptop as well.
