There was a string quartet busking in the Montgomery station this morning. They were playing "La Bamba". This had me laughing all the way up the escalator to street level. Sometimes I love this city.

Less laugh-inducing was the 4.7 quake near Gilroy this morning. Torgi woke up [profile] funkyplaid, but I slept right through it. Did anyone else feel it? If you did, report it to the USGS - they collect that data to study how far earthquake waves move.

I am working the EPA Spill Phone this morning. Usually, this is a very boring duty but during the World Cup it's pretty cool because there are two televisions in the Spill Phone Center. One is tuned to CNN, one to Telemundo. England v. Trinidad this morning. One of the EPA folks told me that a Trinidadian distillery has offered the team's players an extra incentive - if they beat England, each one of them will win a barrel of rum.

I miss la chica something fierce.

Yes, each drum will contain one dead English team member.

I'll second that, especially Peter Crouch and that stupid dance! I mean if I hear "them" mention 1966 again I'm gonna CENSORED.

It woke me up this morning. I started to go back to sleep, but turned on the news to find out the magnitude and epicenter location. Now I'm wondering about the equipment in our lab, which sets on the third floor in downtown San Jose. We've already got a small leak in our oxygen line. o_O

Hmmm...

I woke up minutes before the Loma Prieta quake back in '89. Animals generally sense the disruption in the earth before quakes hit too.

What you're probably sensing is the P-wave, which moves faster than the S-wave.

It was weird because I was working graveyard, and woke up out of a dead sleep wondering WTF did I wake up for...then a couple minutes later...

Thanks for the link. The "Love Wave" sounds like an amusement park ride. :D

yes! i woke upspecifically aware of something. and i listened for the trucks outside 19th avenue since they often sound like a rolling/rumbly movement. just a minute after i got my hearing set, it started shaking.

I read the subject line as Bibs & Boobs. Am I the only one?

They still play Muzak in a lot of stores in Japan, but it's often Muzak pop or rock music. Every once in a while I'll suddenly realize I'm shopping to "Love is a Battlefield" or "The Immigrant Song."

I see by the comments that I wasn't the only boob who misread. ;)
