The Mongol hordes flew in on Friday. They ate all the food in town, drank all the gin, & now have returned East to their ancestral homelands to do whatever it is that Mongol hordes do when they aren't pillaging the West.

As usual with Mongol Hive gatherings, it is with mixed feelings that I come to the end of it. Of course I'm sad to see my friends go - especially now, when I get to see them so rarely. I wish I could've spent more time with everyone who came to visit - two-plus days was entirely insufficient.

But there's also more than a bit of relief, because I find it very tiring to be in the constant company of a large group of people. I always feel pressure to be On, to be funny, to be the charming hostess, to talk to everyone (because they came so far to visit), & to always know what we're doing next. I was actually kind of relieved to come to work today, thinking I would get to spend a few quiet hours at my desk ... ALONE. Yey introversion!

No such luck. My virus-riddled computer gave up the ghost at about 9 AM this morning, & I was unable to get anything substantial done until after lunch. Now I'm feeling pressure on multiple deadlines, & I'm also really feeling the cumulative effect of lots of drinking, lots of exercise, & numerous nights of insufficient sleep, all combining to leave me frazzled & unfocused.

But I'm still taking Thursday & Friday off, come Hell or high water.

And then there's this one pesky mongol who won't leave and has been drinking all the tea in the house. ;)

If you want a little more alone time one of these evenings just let me know. I often feel the same way about Hive weekends and try to hollow out a little time by myself or I get really crabby.

If you drink all the tea in my house, 1) I will be very impressed; & 2) [profile] funkyplaid will have words with you.

And no, no need for you to run off. It's the LARGE numbers of people that wear me down. One person, two people, that's fine. If I do want to be by myself for a while, I promise I'll let you know. Thanks!

I don't think it would be possible to drink all the tea here, but I have gone through 3 cups so far today and I'm thinking about making some more...

I so know what you mean. Way back when we used to host bands for NYC and granted it was many of my favorites at the times, but they would come in hordes of 5-12 people for 2 days, up to a week. At first it was great because we met some amazing people, hung out, partied, some we even keep in touch with 10 years later, but then as I got older it got harder. I think because you have so many things to do in your life to keep order like job and other activities, and then being the happy good hostest on top of it all. Still it is fun to see far away friends.

I hope this post doesn't sound like I was unhappy with the weekend, because that is not at all the case. I had a great time seeing everyone & showing off this crazybeautiful city. I was simply acknowledging how exhausting the whole project was.

But I'd do it again!
