Birthday bash!
Oct. 22nd, 2007 11:28 amUgh. I'm still a bit hungover from my birthday party on Saturday. Tequila is not my friend.
But despite the hangover, my birthday was really fun.
katieledge,
hotpantsgalore & I got up early & went to Bushwick to take part in NYCares Day. We joined up with some friends & painted murals in the lunch room of a junior high school. HPG & I spent the bulk of the day on a scaffold, hanging out with a super-cute 12-year-old named Alex (short for Alexandra). She was a really great kid, & between the three of us, we painted a lovely mural of the Brooklyn Bridge. I think that's the first time I've ever painted something that was supposed to look like something. It was fun.
We zipped home, took a quick nap, & then headed back into Manhattan for dinner at Hill County Barbecue with
vulgarbarbarian,
chaosvizier, T*,
chyrsoberyl, &
chrysoberyl's sister K*. I feel that the restaurant lived up to its hype, with delicious, delicious barbecue, excellent side dishes, tasty drinks, & some by-God amazing ice cream. After dinner,
vulgarbarbarian had to go home, but St. John the Clean joined us at Rodeo Bar - & he's the one that bought the tequila shots, so I blame my wasted Sunday on his largess. The bar was a ton of fun though; lots of BoSox fans were there & Boston won that night in a blowout. We were dancing to the live country music by the end of the night.
hotpantsgalore poured me into a cab & got me home safe & sound.
My day was punctuated with great phone calls & text messages from family & friends. Perhaps the best one was from
funkyplaid &
evilfb, my former housemates from le Chateau. They called from
funkyplaid's store, & sang for me, & then I heard
evilfb declare: "It's No-Pants Day! WOO HOO!" & for once that clarion call did NOT fill me with horror, because I was 2,600 miles away. But it reminded me of the crazy days of living in San Francisco with my two boys, & our house full of shenanigans. Good times, good times.
So,
hotpantsgalore, being the loving girlfriend that she is, got me two birthday presents. One is a sammich maker - OH YES!! I have wanted one of these ever since I got back from Scotland. Delicious hot sammiches will be served at my house all winter. She also got me an Eagles jersey! As I was opening up the jersey, I was overwhelmed - my dear HPG, somehow overcame her Texas upbringing, & got me this lovely Eag- WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE.
It's a NUMBER 81 TERRELL OWENS JERSEY I AM GOING TO KILL HER.

Anyway, I was feeling too delicate to eat breakfast at the house this morning, so around 10:30 AM I had the chefs at le Dunkin Donuts prepare me a low-carb breakfast: an egg, ham, & cheese sandwich on a muffin. And it was pretty good! This may become my new breakfast. My mom told me an easy way to cook the egg in the microwave, so it sounds like a quick, low-mess breakfast option that meets my endocrinologist's dietary standards.
Speaking of my endocrinologist, she called me - herself, not a secretary - last Friday, just to see how I was feeling on my new dosage. Wow. I can't remember the last time I spoke to a doctor on the phone. Overall, I am feeling much, much better on the lower dosage - although perhaps I should lay off the sauce a bit. Heh.
But despite the hangover, my birthday was really fun.
