After talking to Des, I have decided to stay in NOLA through February 2nd. There is not a lot of work in the URS - San Francisco office right now. If I stay here, I will be 150% billable for four of the first five weeks of 2006, which is good for me in two ways. One, it means three more super-sized overtime paychecks. Two, it means my 2006 total billability starts on a high note. This is an important performance metric for consultants. High billability = job security. The downside of this change, of course, is that I will be away from home for even longer. *sigh*

I will rotate home to San Francisco from Friday 12/30 (arriving at SFO at 11:10 PM) through Sunday 01/08 (leaving from SFO at 6:25 AM). So I will have over a week to rest & relax, although I won't be home for Christmas. To make up for this, I want to do something FUN for New Year's. Sorry, Hivelings, I won't be able to make it to Ithaca, so it will have to be something awesome in San Francisco.

Now taking suggestions.

.... you come visit SF some time when I'm *not* there for only a week? I'm going to be somewhat busy with work stuff during that week - my annual physical, some health & safety training, my annual review, etc. Come visit in the spring!

My brother and I used to spend New Year's Eve in The City just about every year. Sometimes we'd even make it to the fireworks show down at the pier. One of the most memorable experiences had him, his friend, and I all starting out in the Castro. We left him at his favorite bar there, while we headed back towards downtown. He caught up with us later on over at Market Street, and the three of us found an awesome pool hall to drink at. I can't remember if we made it down to the pier in time for the fireworks.

Sometimes there're decent bands playing the clubs for the occasion, but that depends on your definition of a decent band. I thought the band that Steven Adler played in (after being kicked out of G'n'R) at a club on Broadway one New Year's Eve was decent, but I'm pretty sure most people would disagree with me.

Kitty Kitty Bang Bang (http://www.kittykittybangbang.com/) are performing at Bimbo's (http://www.bimbos365club.com/) along with some bands that night.

Hmmm.

Something tells me that neither of those links should be clicked on from a monitored government computer.

Relax...

Bimbo's is a nightclub. I've never been there, but some good bands play once in awhile. KKBB are a group of women that perform a trapeze, burlesque, cirque de soleil, type show. I'd warn you if anything I linked was NSFW.

Heh.

d00d, a guy almost got sent home because someone decided the content of his blog mixed information about F*MA (he talked about his work here) with "obscene material" (he talked about his personal life & happens to be gay). I never know WHAT is going to set these people off.

Makes me a bit paranoid.

I imagine a lot of people that work for the government feel that way.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. :P

I miss you too. But I'll be home three weeks from today - for a week, at least.

I know that you miss home, yet I feel blessed that you will be staying here in NOLA a bit longer. I look forward to more adventures!

You want an adventure?
