Just about a year after starting my first adventure, I am preparing for my second endurance event to raise money for the LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). This summer I am training to complete an Olympic-distance triathlon (0.9-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike, 6.2-mile run).

As you know, I did this last year. So you may ask - why do it again?

Here’s why: the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 54,000 people died of leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma in 2006 (US only).

Here’s why: In March, Sydney Thweatt found out that she is cancer-free, after a harrowing year with leukemia. She was cured by therapies developed by research funded in part by the LLS.

Here’s why: Because I can.

It’s not an easy goal, but it is a most worthwhile goal. I am willing & eager to spend another summer doing grueling workouts if doing so means that we will be one step closer to the complete elimination of cancer. Think about that for a minute. No. More. Cancer.

But to get closer to that goal, I need help from all of you. Please donate generously at my fundraising webpage. All donations are tax-deductible (in the US) & Team in Training guarantees that at least 75% of money raised goes directly to their mission: funding research & supporting current patients.

Like last year, I will be posting updates on my progress throughout the summer on this LJ. With help from all of you, it will be another amazing summer.

Thank you so much.

Heh, I'll have to ask [personal profile] chaosvizier if he plans to run the Bad Pun Awards Program again.
