For pretty, pretty (& informative) red & blue maps: Electoral Vote 2008. I adore this site - it is chock-full of the latest poll data for the US Presidential, Senate, & House races. Democratic-leaning commentary is also thrown in by the Votemaster.

And if you're interested in where all the money is coming from for these elections, check out Open Secrets, which gives you tons of data & analysis about where the candidates are getting their dollars.

ok. I have a problem so far with politics.

Edwards: I can't stand him. He was lousy for North Carolina, and he can't debate worth a darn. I think he would be a waste of the democratic nomination.

Hillary: Her comments regarding the assasination yesterday just sounded rambly and political to me. I can't get excited about her, other than the thought that she might (if the stars and planets were all in just the right alignment) be able to make health care better. I want to like her, but I have a really hard time getting excited about her being the democratic nomination.

Obama: I like him, or at least, he hasn't ticked me off.

So far, I really like Huckabee (except if what your link said about him not knowing up to date information is true, I have to wonder) but he's a republican

So I think what I'm asking is, are there any dems other than the big three that I could get excited about? Any suggestions? I've been looking for them... But I keep getting impressed by the republicans, and that just feels dirty!

First, it is not dirty to like the Republican candidates. Obviously, I don't plan to vote for any of them, but each one of us gets to make our own decision.

Second, you might want to check out Gov. Bill Richardson. I really like him as a candidate but I think he's doomed because he's just not getting enough money or media attention.

Lastly, every fact I have checked that came from the Votemaster has turned out to be correct. The guy is a political data machine.

Thanks, I'll look at Richardson. I think anything could happen in the next few weeks.

y'know, I rather liked Richardson, until I talked with a bunch of my colleagues who worked with him both when he ran the DoE and when he was Gov. of NM (Los Alamos is there), and I believe the exact quote was "he's dumb as a brick and twice as mean".

Maybe he's learned something since then, but no reasonable person I know pisses off nuclear scientists.

Clarification requested.

Is that because nuclear scientists are somewhat easygoing & therefore difficult to piss off, or because reasonable people REALIZE that pissing off NUCLEAR SCIENTISTS could be DANGEROUS?
