Last Thursday: seven degrees, windy, depth of winter.
Last Tuesday: sixty-five degrees, sunny, hello spring!
This morning: Thunderstorms?

Anyone else confused? This is only my second winter in New York City. What is the weather normally like at this time of year?

Well, three years ago we did have a hellaciously cold cold January. I made sure I spent that year in Mauritius, a fine tropical paradise. I'm clever that way.

January is a mix of things; sometimes cold, sometimes cool, sometimes moderate, sometimes snowy. It's February that you have to watch out for- that's when Texans DIE OF HYPOTHERMIA.

The weather in DC has been fucked up, too. Not quite that bad (when you were at 7 we were closer to 30), but definitely not normal.

"Normal"'s been thrown out the window, yannow, global warming and all.

The weather hasn't really been normal here for about five years, but the last three have been particularly fucked up. Your guess is sincerely as good as ours. My garden, in fact, would thank you for the heads-up.
