Grand Jury duty.

hotpantsgalore (who visited me this weekend) brought me my mail. I dug through it very quickly until I found my absentee ballot, which was the only thing I really cared about. HPG left yesterday for a week-long road trip around Texas, so last night I went through the rest of the mail.

And found a grand jury summons.

I was supposed to report yesterday morning.

I was thinking the security clearance part, but was NEVER going to say that out loud.

1. I can't get ahold of anyone at the court today - they are closed for Election Day.

2. It's a $1,000 fine, not $250. And according to the interweb, they've been enforcing it recently in New York County (that's Manhattan not Queens but still) because jury duty no-shows are increasing.

3. I've already let the NISTAC powers know about the situation.

I am inclined to think, and am hoping, that your extenuating circumstances will allow you a get out of jail free card, unlike some bozo who just doesn't care and ignores the summons.
