American folk art
Nov. 3rd, 2003 08:54 pmIn the maelstrom of last Friday, I forgot to mention that last Thursday night I gave a few of my floormates a demonstration of an authentic American folk art: jack'o'lantern carving.

They were unbelievably enthusiastic over this one little lame grinning pumpkin. Selina had a fit today when I announced it was time for Jack to visit the magical kingdom of the rubbish bin, but after Hsin-Yi took this picture, off he went:

Speaking of my floormates, we have all come up with some pretty silly nicknames for each other. I started it when, while teasing Selina about the fact that she eats at least five pieces of bread a day, I told her that I was going to call her Princess Bread from now on. A few days later, she named Heather Princess Pizza, since Heather is a big fan of Tesco's frozen pies. Heather is currently bucking for a promotion to the Queen of Caffeine, & she does own & heavily use a coffee maker, but for the moment she's stuck in her entry-level royalty position. So anyway, of course this business of nicknames has gotten completely out of hand, & we now have a most Royal Kitchen:
... and Hiroshi, the fanatical organiser of our floor, the one who wrote down everyone's full name, email address, & birthdays & posted them in the kitchen, who gets up at 4:00 AM every day & works out for 2 hours, our Fearless Leader ....
I figure I can add a couple more:
Any other unacknowledged kitchen royalty out there?
