Subject: HAZWOPER 8-hour supervisor training

Hello all:

There are some folks in the San Francisco office who need to get their 8-hour supervisor HAZWOPER training accomplished. Jerry A*, our regional H&S coordinator, is tentatively scheduled to come to the SF office on Friday June 17th to do the 3-hour in-class portion of the training.

Is there anyone who needs this training? You have to complete five hours of online training in LMS before attending the in-class training in order to receive your certificate. If you're interested, please let me know.

Thanks,

Angela Ledgerwood
Staff Scientist

Hey Angela

Sign me up for the 8-hour supervisor training. Dale S* thinks that, with my FEMA work, I should have it and should probably have my 40-hour HAZWOPER training, but asked me to confer with Des about the 40-hour.

Thanks,

Wynne K*
Environmental Planner

Sorry, Wynne - but I just don't see you as a "trainable" employee. Your recalcitrance, quick temper and "Navy Seal" instincts are just not commensurate with the new "kinder, gentler URS" that we are promoting. You have been too long steeped in the dark arts of covert ops - I fear that you have may have gone to the Dark Side. Sith Lord S* has corrupted you.......

wow, and I thought my bi-polar boss was bad. My boss switches from ignoring everything I'm doing or asking to micromanaging my work with no warning.

but ...

Des isn't bad to work for - he's quite amusing!

Which makes him much better than my boss. My boss is similarly insane, it's just that I don't like working for him, so I can't share his antics. Besides, his name is Mark, nowhere near as interesting as Des for naming a world after.

My boss has his Star Wars related items shipped to work so his wife doesn't find out what he's buying on eBay

I realize that's not quite in the same league as Des, but I'm remaining hopeful he'll open up once he gets used to me.

I can honestly say I don't know what the fuck is going on. heh

Is this serious? Am I just stupid/out of the loop?

These are three, real emails that were exchanged yesterday.
1. I made an announcement to my office about some upcoming job training.
2. Wynne responded with a question regarding said training.
3. Des made fun of Wynne.

If you're asking me to explain Des, feh - that's hopeless. He's English.

Okay, I've got you now. I take it Des knew Wynne, though?

Although, if you didn't, it would make it that much funnier.

Yeah, Des, Wynne, & I all form part of the core of the office's Drinking Team. We make fun of each other all day, every day.

And thus inneffible. Or infallible. one of the two (probably the former) :)

Definitely not infalliable. But lots of fun nonetheless.

Hahahaha!

What I like best about Darth Retardus's response is that one really has no idea of whether to take it as a yes or a no.

I think I'd like my job more if we all had Sith names.

Yeah, getting a clear answer out of Des is sometimes a hassle.

"HAZWOPER"? Sounds like some kind of super weapon. Can I have a go? What are the export restrictions? :-)

it's not that exciting

HAZWOPER = Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.

Basically, it's training for how to work near toxic chemicals. Isn't my job GREAT?!?!

toxic chemicals like printer toner? I had to take a Hazmat class at UT because my job brought me into contact with printer toner. I thought this was ridiculous.

That seems like a bit of overkill. When I say "toxic chemicals", I really mean it. We clean up soil & groundwater that have been contaminated by industrial spills & leaking underground storage tanks (amongst other things). Sometimes we actually have to wear clean suits, a la The X-Files. So a bit of safety training is really a good thing for us. But for printer toner? I think a reminder to wash your hands after changing a cartridge would be sufficient.
