Don't mess with Texas. Anymore.
Sep. 26th, 2005 08:34 pmOK, a little bit more detail on my assignment has been made clear from today, Day One of Nine of FEMA training.
First of all, I'm not going to survive training, because eight more days of FEMA training is certainly going to be fatal from a boredom perspective.
Anyway, I'm sure that FEMA will reanimate my corpse & deploy it to Hurricane Land. Our instructors seem fairly sure that we're going to Rita, so it's either going to be western Louisiana or eastern Texas. My class is planning to replace our hard hats with 10-gallon hats. While we're there, we will be working with state & local officials to come up with damage estimates - so lots of field work, driving around looking at destroyed public facilities & roads, etc. It sounds pretty interesting, actually.
Well,
xgreenjudasx &
kielbasa_007 are putting dinner on the table. Time to go be social!
BTW - anyone who's planning to visit this weekend - I will have full days of training both Saturday & Sunday. That doesn't mean you can't come on down, but it does mean 1) you won't see much of me, & 2) I can't get totally drunk at night.
