angledge: (Triathlon)
Biked 7.5 miles from Fairfax to Alpine Dam. Very hilly terrain, but I didn't find it as tough as last weekend's Big Rock climb, mostly because there was some relief - up, then a bit of flat, then up, up, up, then downhill, etc. Big Rock was just a straight, vicious climb.

I was incredibly nervous about this workout, so nervous that I had trouble sleeping last night. Even when I started riding, I was just so nervous that I was going to fail again. On the way to the workout site, I had tried to find some songs on the radio to sing to myself on the ride, but nothing had stuck in my head. So I fell back on something I can ALWAYS recite:

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On Earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.

I repeated this under my breath, partly as an actual prayer, partly as a distraction. I noticed that, by the end of the first, worst climb, the prayer had been abbreviated:

Our Father, who art in heaven
Get me up this hill.

When I got to Alpine Dam, I hopped off the bike, changed shoes, & started trail-running along Lagunitas Creek. The run felt easy - legs felt good, wind was good, & my little group kept up a decent if not blistering pace. I didn't even have on my good running shoes (since I had left them at the gym, doh). We ran for about 45 minutes, & I have no idea how far we went because there were no mile markers or landmarks.

We ran back to Bolinas Road, & I got back on Valentina & went 7.5 miles back to Fairfax. My chanting mantra on the way back was simple, but extremely motivational:

I know I can do this.
I've already done this.

Total time: 2 1/2 hours.

This workout was billed as the hardest bike ride of the season & I actually feel OK.

35 days to the triathlon.
