angledge: (polar bear paw)
Ugh, the Universe is trying my willpower this week.

[livejournal.com profile] hotpantsgalore is finally, finally, FINALLY getting over pneumonia. But she is still very easily tired & VERY cranky - & she has gotten very used to being waited on hand & foot. I've been "encouraging" her to start doing some stuff around the house - encouragement which has been poorly received. Too bad, you have to get out of that chair & turn off "The Bachelor" reruns. She is leaving on Thursday Sunday for a three-month contract job at a hospital in Gilette, Wyoming. I will likely be staying up there for a week here & there during her assignment - as long as she has wifi, I can log in to work from anywhere. The apartment she's staying in allows pets, so Shadeaux can come too.

Speaking of whom.... Shadeaux ate something bad yesterday & I had to rush her to the vet - & then rush her outside about every 20 minutes for 6 hours until she was feeling better. I also had to get up two times last night to take her outside. Of course, we got a huge dump of snow yesterday & the temperatures plunged into the teens (we couldn't be managing doggie diarrhea in NICE weather). Poor baby dog is feeling better today - I gave her watered-down beef bone broth for rehydration. If it's good for my gut, I imagine it will help hers as well. Her new nickname is Garbage-Face. I realized that it might be a good thing that I've never had kids - I was an emotional wreck because my doggie-woggie had a tummyache. I mean, I was holding her in my arms & binge-eating king cake last night. A sick kid would put me in the insane asylum.

Then this morning, I spilled half a bottle of bleach on the carpet near my washer & dryer. I store my laundry detergent & associated products on top of the washer/dryer unit, & the washer's spin cycle caused the bleach bottle to walk forward & plummet to the floor. The lid was loose & bleach went everywhere. So far, amazingly the carpet does not seem to be bleaching out - but I walked across the damp spill & my socks immediately started bleaching. So there's still bleach there. I currently have every white towel & rag in the house piled on the spill location. I also managed to spatter some bleach on my brand new jeans - jeans so new, I hadn't even washed them yet! Infuriatingly they are now speckled with bleach spots. RRRRRRRRR.

In spite all of this, I plan to start my second attempt at a Whole30 tomorrow, Ash Wednesday. Call it WholeLent. I weighed myself this morning - 181.5 pounds. I've got a ton of Whole30-compliant meals in the freezer, a bunch of recipes & ingredients readied for this week, & I'm going to a cooking class on Saturday that promises to yield 10 more freezer meals. That should put me in pretty good shape for 30 days. Even when I go up to Wyoming to visit [livejournal.com profile] hotpantsgalore, I will be able to pack a cooler with compliant food & stay on the program. Hopefully.
