What to say? I'm going to miss my idiosyncratic, effervescent, supportive, & highly amusing boss. I gave him a parting gift yesterday: a 1994 Glenrothes Signatory unchilfiltered single-cask. I also included a note (sealed with EPA custody seals for my own amusement) to let him know how much fun I've had working for him. We both were a little verklempt but happily we managed to punch each other in the shoulders & gruff our way through it.

But.....

Who's going to refill Des' stapler for him, since he's never figured out how to do it? Who will correct his Excel spreadsheets when he's caught furtively adding up column totals on his calculator & hand-entering them into the workbook? Who will help him find his coffee mug when he's lost it for the eleventh time in one day? Who will accompany him to the EPA meetings & help him keep all those troublesome personalities happy?

And for that matter.... who's going to invite me to attend "remediation seminars" at our "auxiliary training facility", a.k.a. Harrington's? Who will regale me stories from his past as a Navy SEAL? Or plans for his future of running a Sock Emporium? Who will push the bounds of political incorrectness without ever managing to actually offend anyone?

Happy Hour last night was a pretty sedate affair. Especially for me, since I was drinking tonic water with lime, but no gin. Tracy, my designated drinker, was a bit of a disappointment, but she almost lured Patrick up onto the table for a dance. I... think I'm pretty glad she failed. Some images can't be washed out of the brain, y'know? Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thepikey for attending the festivities & for giving me a ride home.

Whoooooo! URS is picking up the tab!                Probably an engineer joke.

Oh, Ang. This is the end of something amazing that you've built from the ground up – and the beginning of another that you'll render with equal mastery. I can vouch for your perfect gift of Glenrothes; it's a lovely vintage. I just had the Glenrothes 1965 this evening in Aberdeen, and wished you could have been there with us to enjoy the atmosphere. Yes, nineteen-sixty-fucking five.

Des will struggle without you. URS will be less effective without your ministrations and good, hard work. And New York and its environs is most definitely a lucky motherfucker. We'll miss you unbelievably. But even today, Kieran, Azra, and I were plotting and planning a NYC adventure in the near future, and surely it will seem like almost no time has passed between us when we meet again.

And I can't wait for that.

*glass clinking* Cheers to you Ang and your new adventure! Des will no doubt have to have a stapler symposium to help him get his training. The people that call the spill phone will also miss you! As for you? You are gonna KICK ASS in the NYC office and cause them to mutter "what did we ever do without her"...Best of everything to you my friend! I will see you in NY!
