I'm having a slow day at work, so I'm livestreaming the NY State Senate proceedings, hoping that one more Republican senator will find it in his heart to do the right thing & give NY State marriage equality. I hope.

The NYS Senate vote is obviously getting a lot of news coverage today, including a nasty little poll from radio station WBEN in Buffalo. Four choices out of five allow you to express exactly WHY gay marriage is icky, & the fifth choice lets you say "Eh, whatever". Despite that in-built bias, look at the results! I hope.

And then someone linked this incredible video, made from a speech made by Harvey Milk. And I'm nearly in tears, here at my desk. What would Harvey Milk have become if he hadn't been gunned down? He saw things so clearly - not just for LGBT issues, but for all the "us's" out there. And the hopeful part is - gunning him down didn't shut him up. Didn't work on Martin Luther King Jr. either. Maybe decency, & equality, & love are things that can't be gunned down, not for long. I hope.

Buffalo's main alt-like blog aggregator was on this earlier today, like white on stupid. I haven't been through all the comments that accumulated since then, but I imagine the discussion is far more rational than on the opposing site (which constantly berates any effort to sanction "homo sexual marriage" and which refuses to publish comments).

I still think Grisanti will come around. He may demand more exclusions for Knights of Columbus halls and that shit, but really. Aren't those really just academic exercises, given what a KofC hall actually looks like?

Oh, and the weird thing? This station has two "local" talkers, both right of Attila the Hun, but the afternoon guy, pseudonymed "Sandy Beach," pretty much came out, ur, announced his support of the bill today, saying it was contrary to conservative principles to interfere in purely private matters. I'm sure he's being pilloried all over the place today in the rest of Wingnutistan; "homo sexual marriage" guy already hates him, routinely publishing his real name and making libelous claims about his family.

Wow!! That's something I've always wondered about conservatives, how they square less government with MORE government in my bedroom.

Maybe some of them are finally being consistent.
