1. What food do you like that most people hate?

The other international students on my floor are all of the opinion that peanut butter & jelly is the nastiest-sounding combination they've ever heard of. They categorically refuse to try a PB&J sandwich.

At home, I really like going to McDonald's, buying a chocolate milkshake & a large order of fries, & then dipping the fries in the milkshake. Some people find that repulsive.

2. What food do you hate that most people love?

I can't stand nuts in chocolate. Or peanut butter in chocolate. The smell alone makes me queasy.

3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?

Easy. The MTV Europe Video Awards were held in Edinburgh last night, & we were watching it at the pub. Christina Aguilera was hosting, & I could not get over how unattractive she was. She looked cheap, slutty, & just completely overblown; a complete turnoff. Wouldn't touch her with a ten-foot pole.

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?

Since I don't follow popular culture very much, I'm having trouble with this question. Aren't most famous people famous at least in part because they're attractive? It's hard to think of unattractive famous people, unless they're professional atheletes, politicians, or newsmakers of some sort.

Fine, we'll go with historically famous. I think Mary, Queen of Scots, was one fine-looking filly. Tall, red hair, green eyes, killer dress sense (for the time). Looked great in a crown. But some people didn't seem to like her much, & her cousin Queen Elizabeth I took that dislike to the extreme conclusion of beheading Mary, after imprisioning her for 17 years. Harsh!

5. What popular trend baffles you?

All of them, more or less. I'll pick one as an example: I don't understand why the guys over here go to a great deal of hairstyling trouble to create hairstyles that look like they just rolled out of bed. And I know they are deliberate hairstyles; I overheard two of my students trading styling tips. They gel up their hair & then basically make a pillow crater on one side of their head, flattening the hair down in that area & spiking it all over the rest of their head. It's silly looking, & worse, they won't wear hats for fear of messing it up. THAT'S going to be inconvenient when winter sets in for serious ....

My turn!

1. What food do you like that most people hate?

Escargots. Mmmm, snailicious. With butter and garlic. Double mmm.

2. What food do you hate that most people love?

There are relatively few foods that I hate, so it's hard to judge. I guess cooked vegetables. They're just nasty, regardless of veggie involved.

3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?

Lucy Liu: NOT attractive. Cameron Diaz: NOT attractive. Gwyneth Paltrow: NOT attractive. Take your pick.

4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?

Me. I'm a sexy bitch.
Oh, wait, you said famous person. Well, I recently got inexplicably chided for my choice of Rebecca Romijn-Stamos as a hottie, so I'll choose her.

5. What popular trend baffles you?

Many. But I'll focus on Reality TV shows right now. Is there any more intellect-draining activity known to mankind than watching "Paradise Hotel" or "Temptation Island" or "Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire?" I can't imagine. These shows pander to the most horrific and base social conventions that cast out reason in favor of falsified drama and stimuli. I can't wait for "Mugger's Alley", where ten contestants are dropped off in downtown Detroit at midnight and the winner is whoever survives to dawn. Or, in my widlest dreams, "The Most Dangerous Game," in which contestants can hunt each other down using only weapons they've crafted from the environment around them. Oh yes, the magic of "reality" television. How it lessens us all.

Without tell them that PB&J is the favorite food of George W Bush (scary, huh?), you need to have a little party where you make each of your friends try a sandwich. Remind them how much fun they had carving pumpkins...

Good luck!
