Swim-a-thon results
Jan. 31st, 2005 10:27 amAfter a couple of weeks of hounding my family, friends, & co-workers for donations for my swim team's fundraiser, Saturday it was time to actually do the swim. 1 1/2 hours, as many lengths as you can swim. I got my dear cousin
matt_ledgerwood to count lengths for me. He's a former PriceWaterhouseCooper auditor, which means I can state my totals with the complete confidence that only a Big Six accountancy firm can give you. Or something like that. Maybe it will all end in scandal. Mmm, Swimron.
But all in seriousness, I am pleased to tell you that I completed 252 lengths, for a total of 6,300 yards, or just over 3.5 miles. I had the second-highest total on my team. But even more importantly, I have raised nearly $1,000 for the Red Cross. We're still totalling it up, but we think that our team as a whole raised over $20,000.
There were a lot of people running around with cameras; if I can scrounge any photos, I'll post them.

Date: 2005-01-31 08:58 pm (UTC)Much better than my best ever breast stroke sprint times from back when I used to compete, but then breastroke feels so slow compared to everything else (even my god-awful butterfly).
The tri class at Cornell was working on 50/minute pace when I attended my last class. I was faster than that, so I got a short rest for each 50. But I'm not sure how much of my ability to a 50 in 50 seconds was due to that rest, and how much is my own speed.
When I do a half-hour swim workout, I'm usually able to do half a mile mostly non-stop (my kingdom for a lane to myself or compatible lane partners) and 5 minutes of kicking to cool down. Unless I'm working on my flip turns. I know that a good flip turn is faster, but I'm not good enough at them to get my breathing right, so they tire me out and slow me down.
I need to find someone to apply lotion to my back (and the rest of me while they're at it) so my skin can handle more frequent swims during the winter.
