On Thursday, I was complaining to Des about some maps he’d had me produce for a project. "Des," I grumbled, "these maps aren’t even to scale!"

"They don’t need a scale. Just print them out, all right?" he replied.

"But Des, in our contract, we said we were going to follow the ASTM standard for this report. And the ASTM standard specifies scaled maps!"

"Oh, tish-tosh! We say a lot of things."

So there you have it: contractual language is null & void. WTF does "tish-tosh" mean, anyway?

Oh dear. Eventually he's going to be dealing with someone that's going to call him on that, and having a client hit you with the contractual penalties is not a fun thing.

I know.

I worry about that too. But there's nothing I can do - I pointed out the problem & alerted him to the contractual obligation. If he tells me to go ahead & publish the maps ... well, he's the boss.

Reality is overrated. If I can tish-tosh something out of my general field of existence, all the better. Now if I could just find the counterpart to tish-tosh, so I could bring things forward into my reality and hsot-hsit a sack of money into my waiting arms.

"Hsot-Hsit" was interpreted as "hot shit".

Hey, I'm not shaking in my boots over this. I am a smart corporate drone - I DOCUMENTED my objection with an email.

*smiles beatifically from behind the +1 Shield of CYA*

And I'm not really worried that the client is going to care - I don't think they've ever read the ASTM Standard, so they won't know we didn't follow it. Also, I highly doubt anyone actually reads these stupid reports, anyway.

The point of this post is the same as the point of all DesWorld Dispatches - pointing out that I work for a lunatic.
