3) Run, don't walk, to your local comic book store & buy Sandman collections 1 through 10.
4) Your next assignment will be given to you upon receipt of your book report on Sandman. If you are now a goody two-shoe N.G. overachiever, you can work ahead of the syllabus by reading American Gods.

That was a great day. Worth bagging half a day of work for, no question.

Favorite NG work? Tough call... all Sandmans rule, but especially World's End and the one with the Key to Hell. I like the Sandmans better than his novels. Not to say that his novels are bad; certainly not. I just like comics. They have something extra. Good writing is one thing; good writing combined with good art is another.

I was ripshit pissed to discover that when I was in Toronto this past weekend, Neil was doing a signing at a bookstore a couple of blocks away. Partially pissed because I hadn't brought anything with me that would be appropriate for a signature, and partially because I found out about it an hour after it ended. Grr.

By the way, you know that Neverwhere is now available on DVD, yes?

As for favorite work, definitely the aforementioned Neverwhere. Yes, Sandman was faboo and all that, but it was more of a mythology than a story. American Gods seemed like a reworking of Sandman (especially with his prediliction for reinterpreting Norse mythology). Still haven't read Coraline yet.

Favourite other graphic novel - Books of Magic (although the later collections were not written by Gaiman, I still love them! I love Tim! I will love Tim forever... ^^)

I'm partial to Neverwhere too. Though I agree Sandman is in a league of its own.

As for fave work... I'll say Good Omens as Sandman would be too obvious. Neverwhere was good and Londony as well.

I've said it before and I'm sure I will again: I'm so peeved Neil comes to DC on family business (his son goes to school here somewhere) but never does signings for us. Maybe I've just jinxed him into doing one here soon. ;)

I like just about everything Neil's written. For favorite Sandman collection, I'll say Brief Lives of Doll's House. I'm going to break from the pack on overall favorite, though, and go with Mr. Punch. The CD version of Coraline is cool because it's like having Neil sitting next to you, telling a story.

When I was in SF a few years ago I went to the comic book art museum and they had an exhibit of Charles Vess's paintings from Stardust- beautiful!
